Apr 11, 2019 · Doris Zinkeisen was the first artist to enter the infamous Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp after it was liberated on 15 April 1945. She would have witnessed the 13,000 unburied bodies and around 60,000 inmates, most acutely sick and starving. As an artist, she had been commissioned to record what she saw for the British public.
Although primarily a portrait painter, Zinkeisen executed a number of posters for the British Railway companies and the London Underground. She was also an illustrator and muralist, designing for luxury liners such as The Queen Mary and The Queen Elizabeth.
Mar 07, 2017 · Artist of 2 portraits With her sister Anna, Doris Zinkeisen was a familiar figure in the artistic world from the 1920s. Her realist style led to success as a painter of society portraits, horse paintings, and murals for RMS Queen Mary (1935) and RMS Queen Elizabeth (1940). She also produced posters for several railway companies.
As a solo artist Zinkeisen produced many posters for the London and North Eastern railway and for the Southern railway. She exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1929, as well as becoming an elected member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, Paris and the United States and received many medals from the Paris Salon.

Portrait painter and muralist. Anna Zinkeisen won a scholarship to the Royal Academy Schools from Harrow School of Art, and in 1920 and 1921 received the Landseer Award. She later worked for Wedgwood as a ceramics designer. With her sister Doris, Anna painted murals for the passenger liners RMS Queen Maryand RMS Queen Elizabeth.
