Valerie Clarebout is known for Painting and sculpture-decorative figure. A painter and sculptor, Valerie Clarebout was born in England and studied at the Royal Academy of Art in London. In 1934, she went to Paris where she enrolled in the Academie Julian.
Born in the early 1900s, Clarebout studied at the Royal Academy of Art in London and Julien Studio in Paris, and moved to the U.S. in 1952. Rockefeller Center architect Robert Carson soon hired the inventive sculptor to design angels for the Plaza, which she crafted from 18 miles of aluminum wire and brass, along with miniature lights.
In winter the Channel Gardens fountains are turned off and the Center is decorated for the Christmas holidays. The decorations varied for many years until 1954, when Clarebout introduced twelve wire-sculpture angels which, a few years later, became permanent fixtures at Christmastime.
