Drawing & Painting “Impressionism” with Alison Pilcher
Note: Additional fees may apply at time of lesson
  • The aim of this class is to explore and develop a variety of drawing and painting techniques
  • In term 3, this class will explore works by Impressionist artists such as Pissarro, Seurat and Vincent Van Gogh. The Art history of the Impressionist movement will be explored. Participants will practice painting techniques used by these artists and they will create their own unique Impressionist masterpiece.
  • All students will need to bring in their own canvas materials

CHILDREN'S Media Magic with Jane Sears
(incl $5 materials)

Through drawing, painting, mixed media and sculpture, young artists explore traditional and contemporary approaches to making artwork.  Students are encouraged to use their imagination and interpret the world around them through line, form and colour. Includes both 2D (drawing/painting) and 3D (pottery/ceramics)

Pottery & Ceramics with Betty Jennings
(incl $20 for glazes/firing – clay extra)
  • It is essential to know basic handbuilding techniques.  The first weeks are made up of learning these techniques (pinch pots, coil making and slabs) followed by demonstrations of wheel work, decorating with oxides, underglazes, slips and glazing. 
  • I encourage everyone to look at nature for inspiration and use their imagination.  I help you achieve individual creations, in a relaxed and non-competitive atmosphere.

Unconvened OPEN STUDIO LIFE DRAWING – (incl Model fees)
  • This is a great opportunity to meet fellow artists interested in drawing from life. 
  • In this 2 hour session you can self-direct poses and work collaboratively to engage in the power and drama of life drawing.

Creative Claywork with Chris Plumridge
(incl.$20 glazes/firings(clay extra)
  •   My intention for this class is to teach practical skills that will provide participants with the capability to make useful pottery objects that they can use in the home. (eg. mortar and pestle, mug, bowl, vase or cup.) Students will also be encouraged to make and assemble thrown components to develop forms that are of a sculptural nature.

Materials: required for each class include throwing implements especially a soft natural or synthetic sponge. An old shirt or pair of overalls to keep your clothes free from clay splatter. Other throwing tools will be mentioned in class.  A notebook for writing and drawing.

Acrylics & Oils Intermediate/Advanced with David McLeod
  • The aim of this course is to develop the individual strength of the student, and encourage them to experiment with new techniques and different subject matter.  Mainly students will work on their own projects with one or two sessions drawing practice - such as still life and/or a life model.
  • I am an experienced painter with over 20 years of art practice, exhibiting and teaching.

Drawing & Painting “Poem Express” with Juliette Wegdam

Bring a poem that has a special meaning to you. The content of the poem is the lead for your painting. We will discuss what style and technique fits the expression of your poem the best. Painting,  printing or mixed media.  The second half of the term, bring a book you’ve read and design your own cover.

This course is suitable for intermediate and advanced students.

This class is perfect for people who know what they want. You might want to improve or refine your style, try something new or try a different approach. It is important you bring work or images you want to use. The tutor Juliette Wegdam will give you personal  advice. 
Participants who are already in this course expressed their interest in various items like : botanical art, abstract art and 21st contemporary art. We might visit a gallery/exhibition depending on people interested.

"Pop Art" with Juliette Wegdam (nb only 8 weeks)

In this course we will have a closer look at POP-ART. Different techniques, themes and styles used by artists like Warhol, Lichtenstein, Wesselman and Hockney will be our starting point in a powerpoint presentation in the first night. The first sessions we will be using still-life as an inspiration. Later we will focus on your own preferences and turn that into a pop-art-work. We will be painting, collage and mixed media.
  
This course is suitable for beginners and intermediate students.

  • This course presents an investigation into traditional and contemporary art techniques exploring drawing, painting and mixed media. 
  • Develop the skills and confidence to pursue your personal art concerns.
  • Materials required: bulldog clips, charcoal, paper (sold on-site), grey lead pencil, eraser and a cheap box of pastels. 
  • Other materials in relation to painting (watercolour, oils or acrylics) can be discussed in class.

  • My aim as a teacher is to encourage a passion for art and the pursuit of excellence.  We normally set a different theme each week, depending on which facet of watercolour the class wishes. 
  • We experiment with different techniques - wet on wet, glazing, veil painting and colour - with a focus on design. 
  • We finish the day with a “show and tell”, in which all join in a lively discussion on ways to improve.
