9.30am - 12.00pm Contemporary Acrylic Painting with Alison Pilcher

  • In this class, you will be given the opportunity to paint and learn about the following subject matters, throughout the year; landscape, portraiture, still-life & abstract art.
  • One subject is focused on per term.
  • During this class, you can expect to be challenged and encouraged to 'think outside of the box'.
  • Projects commence with research and examination of work by artists from the late 19th century to current day, to stimulate inspiration, ideas and different painting techniques.
  • The main material used is acrylic paint, however other mediums will be used such as ink, gouache, chalk and oil pastels
  • During the duration of a term, it is likely you can expect to produce two or three completed paintings. You will be encouraged to develop your own individual style as well as learning new painting techniques. This class can cater for beginners to advanced artists, you will have a lot of fun, laughs and definitely be taken out of your comfort zone!

NEW 12.45pm – 3.15pm   Beginners to Advanced Pottery with Jill Anderson

  • Jill has many years of experience teaching ceramics and exhibiting her work. She enjoys sharing her obsession with clay and encourages an experimental and creative approach to making.
  • Beginners learn to hand build and/or wheel form basic ceramic forms while more advanced students are assisted in developing their own projects. Decorating, glazing and firing techniques will be covered.
  • Underglazes, oxides, glazes and firing are included in the fee. Clay can be purchased from at the Studio.  Please bring a note book and an apron/old shirt.

 1.00pm - 3.00pm Life Drawing with Marie-Louise Anderson

  • An environment is provided where students can discover their own vision, style and skill through practice using a variety of mediums, creative techniques and approaches. In a fertile environment individual styles evolve through looking, imagining and practice.
  • Individual critique and group discussion helps to develop confidence and critical observation. During sessions we may discuss the work of other artists and current exhibitions.

4.00pm - 5.30pm CHILDREN'S Mixed Media Magic with Suellen Kennewell

  • Each week we will use a range of different mediums and techniques including collage, printing, drawing, painting, frottage and textiles.
  • The class will be fun and stimulating and will engage children to undertake enjoyable, interesting and unique activities.
  • A range of materials is included in the fee to enable students to experience as wide a variety of media as possible.

6.45pm – 8.45pm Painting the Human Form with Marie-Louise Anderson

  • This is a fun and experimental class where anything can happen.
  • We explore and define the human form (with life model) using acrylics, focusing on line, tone and colour but also experimenting with a variety of techniques and styles.
  • Inspiration is found in the work of traditional, contemporary and local artists.
  • Enjoy the experience of critique and group discussion.

9.30am - 11.30am "En Plein Air" Untutored - Convened by Valda Cuming

  • For BAGS members - we meet in local Bayside areas in 2 week blocks. Location details are given at the end of each week, please contact Valda.

10.00am - 12.30pm Intermediate/Advanced Pottery with Jane Sears

  • Hand building techniques (pinch pots, coil making and slabs) wheel work available, decorating with oxides, underglazes, slips and glazing.
  • Everyone is encouraged to look for inspiration and use their imagination. Individual tutoring helps you achieve your creations in a relaxed and happy atmosphere.

1.00pm - 3.00pm Drawing Possibilities with Suellen Kennewell

  • Suellen is an experienced and practicing designer who completed her Bachelor of Arts at Victoria College, majoring in drawing and graduating with Honours. Suellen has a love of shape and structure and is excited by the evolutionary process.
  • Drawing with whatever medium you want, to expand your unique vision.
  • Students will have fun, be excited and feel comfortable to challenge themselves. I want to teach people how to really see things and how to value and develop their unique artistic vision by exploring drawing through self-expression, structure, composition, intuitive use of colour and awareness of their own personal influences.

1.00pm - 3.00pm NEW Tonal Portrait Painting with Clive Sinclair

  • Painting in black and white to start with.
  • Building into umber tones finally adding colour.
  • Working from a life model.
  • Charcoal is used in the first two weeks.
  • Water based oils (no acrylics).
  • Clive will demonstrate in the first hour of each class and guide you step by step in brushwork and colour and tones to the finished portrait.
  • Suggested board or canvas size - 150 x 80.

NEW FOR 2017 10.00am - 12.00pm Painting & Drawing with Poppi O’Connor

  • Poppi is a qualified and experienced arts educator who has taught in secondary and tertiary environments and is extremely well-known for her unique and stimulating teaching methodology and skills. Poppi has been exhibiting since 1987 and has won many awards throughout Australia and overseas. At present Poppi has artwork in collections in England, Japan, USA and Canada, and has just completed a fantastic exhibition in Artspace a the Shirley Burke Theatre Parkdale.
  • This course is designed for people wanting to gain experience and knowledge of materials and techniques in painting and drawing.
  • Explore a range of painting techniques/processes using the appropriate equipment.
  • Gain an understanding of how artists develop aesthetic qualities and distinctive styles in their artworks.
  • Produce several paintings on different surfaces.
  • Have fun and get excited about painting.

10.30am - 1.30pm - OPEN STUDIO for Beaumaris Carers Art Club with Alison Pilcher

1.00pm - 3.00pm Painting & Drawing with Joy Helen Lea

  • This class will concentrate on drawing the same subject for two weeks at a time.
  • Each two week class should stimulate you to give you enough ideas for a complete exhibition on variations on that particular subject.
  • The group will be encouraged to try different drawing techniques after being given a short demonstration.
  • Also short demonstrations will be given on mixing of acrylics with a number of different mediums.
  • Trust in the process of the way I teach and you will enjoy yourself and discover your imagination and style.

9.30am - 12.00pm Contemporary Acrylic Painting with Alison Pilcher

  • Suitable for beginners to advanced painters.
  • We work together to produce a diverse range of work from realistic and abstract, colourful and expressive, covering a myriad of themes to portraits, landscapes and beyond.
  • Materials may include pencils, acrylic paints including primary colours, acrylic brushes and masking tape. A range of papers and canvasses may be required during the term.

10.00am - 1.00pm OPEN STUDIO Pottery Room – Members Only

  • This is an opportunity for you to spend time in the ceramics studio working on your clay projects in a relaxed and comfortable environment.

1.00pm - 4.00pm Open Studio – Members Only

  • New members welcome.
  • Come and share the studio - work on your current project with good friends.

5.45pm - 7.15pm Traditional and Contemporary art for Yr5-Yr12 with Michelle Zuccolo

  • During the term, students primarily develop drawing and painting skills using a range of techniques and media.
  • Students explore sources of inspiration such as working from observation, the imagination and from other art forms.
  • Students have the opportunity to experiment with three-dimensional materials such as clay.

7.30pm - 9.30pm Drawing and Painting with Michelle Zuccolo

  • This course presents an investigation into traditional and contemporary art techniques exploring drawing, painting and mixed media.
  • Develop the skills and confidence to pursue your personal art concerns.
  • Materials required: bulldog clips, charcoal, paper (sold on-site), grey lead pencil, eraser and a cheap box of pastels.
  • Other materials in relation to painting (watercolour, oils or acrylics) can be discussed in class.

9.30am - 12.30pm Watercolour with Valda Cuming

  • I welcome everyone into my class. We have experienced and some newcomers and a lovely atmosphere.
  • I like everyone to bring at least one good quality brush with a good point when wet.
  • Primary colours for newcomers required as many combinations can be made from just blue, yellow and red.
  • 300gram watercolour paper required.
  • It is up to each person to experiment with textures and to find out which suits them best whether it be rough, medium or smooth.
  • We have a different subject for each lesson, either a subject I choose or one the class has suggested.
  • We also tackle perspective and variations of colour (ie. combinations of green)
  • Some artists prefer to work on their own and I take care that each person develops their own style. I suggest and demonstrate ways of solving a problem rather than altering your own work.

10.00am - 12.00pm Exploring Painting and Drawing with Maxine Wade

  • In this class you can use any media and subjects you choose exploring painting and/or drawing.
  • Maxine will guide you - developing your skills and techniques, improving your knowledge of composition, colour mixing, design principles and style.
  • Maxine is a qualified Art teacher of many years.  Her experience and skills as your tutor and mentor also enhances your personal interests and direction.
  • She will present you with suggestions and alternatives to explore your subjects and media - and assist you to strengthen your work.
